With the arrival of the New Year, the West Chicago Park District launched a new Website, www.we-goparks.org. The site, designed by Woodfield Media, is easy to navigate, colorful and informative.
The staff team members working on this project were Superintendent of Recreation Leslie DeMoss, Athletic Coordinator Ken McEwen, Administrative Assistant Melissa Medeiros and Recreation Coordinator Anna Rosales. “We looked at what we had and what we wanted,” said DeMoss. This involved viewing websites of other park districts, government agencies, athletic organizations and the private sector. “It was surprising how quickly it evolved and getting it up to speed, a period of about three and a half months,” he explained.
One goal was to have the design be fun, interesting and colorful. Another very important goal was to have it easy to navigate. “We learned that persons visiting the site want to find the information within the first three seconds. If the initial query satisfies these individuals, they tend to spend more time looking at the other options available and coming back to the site,” said DeMoss. Concentrating on the easy navigation path met the third goal of providing necessary and timely information.
The district‘s “Creating Community” tag line is apparent with its links to governmental agencies, clubs and organizations. “This is beneficial to all., allowing persons to go from one site to another without searching or exiting our site,” he explained.
Enrolling for offered programs becomes more convenient and easier when on-line registration begins April 14. “Another thought with this is more people might sign up for the classes—able to register quickly and not putting it to the side until it is too late,” he explained.
DeMoss added, “As we continue to add information under the various categories, we feel the site will become a valuable tool for the district residents. The staff input has been invaluable and we welcome comments from the persons in the community.”
