If they aren’t careful, the Wheaton Academy Mock Trial Team is going to become a serious contender for the March 3rd State Championship in Springfield. For the second week in a row, the legal Warriors from Wheaton took on some of the best teams in the State. After finishing 2nd in the Kane County Tournament last weekend, the Academy moved northeast.
Competing against sixteen of the largest schools in Lake County, including Antioch, Evanston, Libertyville, Zion-Benton and Mundelein, Wheaton Academy finished a strong 2nd to eventual winner Evanston. Senior Captain Libby Baker (Wheaton) continued to provide strong legal expertise while conducting key direct and cross examinations. Dom Sessa (witness, Algonquin) and Ashley Pivaronas (lawyer, Bartlett) both received All-Tournament recognition for the second week in a row. Freshman Amanda Steimle (St. Charles) and seniors Kim Loewen (Naperville) and Heather Dede (Wheaton) contributed with multiple strong roles.
Wheaton Academy’s next challenge is to measure themselves against perennial state powers at the DuPage County Invitational on February 15th. The DuPage Tournament is the largest independent Mock Trail tournament in the State of Illinois with twenty eight teams.
