Cecil A. Bruce, age 88, of West Chicago, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2008. He was born on June 21, 1919 in Omaha, Illinois to Herman and Carrie Bruce. Cecil was a decorated WWII US Army Veteran. He received several medals while in the Army which included 3 Overseas Service Bars, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon w/4 Bronze Battle Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Silver Star Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.
Cecil was united in marriage on February 9, 1946 to Agnes Overton and they spent the next 62 years of their lives together.
He worked for American Can Company in Maywood, IL for 34 years. Cecil also worked for Winfield Township before he finally retired. He truly enjoyed life and spending time with his family. He will be missed and his memory will be greatly cherished by all who knew him.
Cecil is survived by his wife Agnes, two sons, James (Edie) Bruce of Colorado and Terry Bruce of Ottawa, IL, four granddaughters Sarah (Gabe) Aguirre, Heather Bruce (Benjamin Romero), Laura (Johnny) Arroyo and Carrie (Miguel) Corral, his eight great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Angel, and Marissa Aguirre, Israel and David Corral, Mya and Hanna Arroyo and Penelope Romero; three brothers Edward (late Marion) Bruce of West Chicago, Ray (Ruth Ann) Bruce of Warrenville, J.D. (late Josie) Bruce of Chicago, one sister Mary Radcliff of Washington and many special nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Wayne , Everett and Marty.
- Visitation Tuesday, February 19, 2008 from 4 to 9 pm at Norris-Walen Funeral Home (Ronald T. Segert-Director), 132 Fremont St., West Chicago.
- Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at 11 am at the funeral home, Reverend Eugene Birmingham officiating.
