Clarence J. “Merk” Kyger, age 82, of West Chicago, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at Central DuPage Hospital. He was born on October 17, 1925 in Sterling, Illinois to Harry and Jesse Kyger. Clarence “Merk” proudly served in the US Air Force during WWII completing 35 missions. On December 27, 1947 he was united in marriage to Leah “Faye” Bogott. Mr. Kyger was a physical education instructor and coach for 35 years at West Chicago High School and West Chicago Middle School. He was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed fishing, bird watching and loved being with his family.
Mr. Kyger is survived by his beloved wife Faye of 60 years, three daughters, Kathy (Robert) Mell of Rhinelander, WI, Kary (Mark) Vitali of St. Charles, Kelly(Reed) Dawson of Westminster, CO, Nine Grandchildren, Jason(Jill) Mell, Alisha Mell, Brent(Jessica) Mell, Sarah Vitali, Stacy Vitali, Joseph Vitali, Tyler Dawson, C.J. Dawson, Casey Dawson, Two Great-Grandchildren Riley & Trey Mell.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made through the family and will be donated to various charities. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church, 643 E. Washington St., West Chicago at 12 noon. Rev. Steve Ziegler officiating. Mr. Kyger’s wishes were to donate himself to the Anatomical Gift Association to further medical research for Arthritis.
