Wheaton Academy will feature a former Chicago Bear, the 2007 Division III women’s soccer Player of the Year, and a member of the Brazilian women’s national U-20 soccer team as part of the groundbreaking ceremony for the future Heritage Field House on Wednesday, May 7 at 6:30 p.m.
With construction set to begin this summer, the Heritage Field House is part of a $12.8 million fundraising initiative, Transforming Every Student: The Campaign for Wheaton Academy. The facility is named to honor the legacy of an anonymous lead donor, whose mother attended the Academy, and the thousands of alumni and families that span the Academy’s 155-year history. Images of the planned building are available online at http://www.wheatonacademy.org/campaign_field_house.html.
The groundbreaking ceremony will include comments from Illinois Supreme Court Chief Justice Robert R. Thomas, a former Chicago Bear and former Wheaton Academy coach and parent; Taryne Lee, a 2006 Academy graduate and 2007 Division III women’s soccer Player of the Year; and Leah Fortune, an Academy junior and member of the Brazilian women’s national U-20 soccer team (bios enclosed). West Chicago Mayor Michael Kwasman will also make remarks and be joined in attendance by West Chicago Alderman Joseph Gianforte.
These individuals will be available for interview by members of the press at a reception before the ceremony in the Academy’s current athletic facility, the Warrior Dome.
