     Headlines in the papers have come up with the most blatant oxy-moron yet to be seen, "Clean Coal." If ever there was something that isn't clean, it's Illinois coal.

     The actions of governments become more amazing every day.  Here is the city of Barrinton, IL and the president of the DuPage County Board calling for environmental impact statements on the Canadian National Railway buying the Elgin Joliet and Eastern Railway.

     Recent furror over the assassination of B. Bhutto has resulted in all the presidential candidates now bieng concerned with their abilities to handle foreign policy.  No need to get excited.  There hasn't been a US foreign policy for 15 years.

     Sometimes in the 1960's or later, an unknown author, in writing about the destruction off the Euston Railway Station in London, said, "Its demolition in 1962, still the most wanton act of vandelic savagery in what has bercome a century of architectural barbarism, signalled conclussivaly the end of the age of giants and the arrival of the pygmies." 

In west Chicago, the West washington Street grade crossing is at it again.  About 11am,3 freights tied up the crossing on the UP.  One after another.  Back up of cars about 5flocks. High temperatures, short tempers, a recipe for problems.

        On the 1st, the Washington-Wood Streets railroad grade crossing in West Chicago will be closed for three weeks while being repaired and replaced.  The purpose is fine, the crossings are deteriorating.  However, the citizens in the southwest quadrant of the city are being deprived of round the clock of fast response of emergency vehicles to the endangerment of life and property.

To extradite Hans Peterson, the allegede murderer of Dr. Cornbleet, from French St. Martin island in the Carribean, send in "Dog the bounty huter." It may be illegal, but effective.

Recently the West Chicago Fire Protection District's referendum for an increased tax rate was approved.  This will enable the WCFPD to build two new, fully staffed stations, one to be located in the southern part of the city around or near Rt. 38.  This will, when built, help to lessen the dangers created by the Washington-Wood Street railroad crossing being blocked and response time for fire and paramedic service to the southwest side being delayed.
