About 35 Wild Rose Elementary School students improved their reading
skills through a special initiative created by Wild Rose staff,
administration and parents guided by scores from the first MAP test given
last fall.
They formed a group – including parent volunteers -- called the “Fluency
Flyers” and worked each day on their reading. Their scores improved
dramatically on the spring MAP test. This is a great example of how data can
be used to guide and improve teaching and learning.

Congratulations to Student Assistance Coordinator Stacy Anderson who
recently received her official certification from the Illinois Association
of Student Assistance Professionals. To be certified, members must complete
160 hours of study (mostly college coursework) and demonstrate competency in
five core knowledge areas focusing on prevention through work experience,
training facilitation, and the implementation of prevention strategies. Out
of the more than 450 student assistance professionals statewide, Stacy is
one of only 165 to have earned this honor.
As one of their final activities in language arts media literacy for
this school year, some Haines Middle School 8th graders created Imovies as
their public service announcements. Students researched their issue, created
storyboards, recorded, and edited their commercials before burning them onto

The Fox Ridge Student Council has been very successful this year raising
money to help others – including their own school. The students recently
contributed $300 to help beautify Fox Ridge through the painting of foxes in
the common areas. Fox Ridge also received two DVD players as prizes for the
Student Council’s donation to the Pennies for Patients fundraiser. Kudos to
each of these students and staff for their tremendous community-minded
efforts all year.
The Wredling Middle School Honors Band, Jazz Ensemble, Mixed Choir and
Jazz Choir recently participated in the Music in the Parks Festival in
Cincinnati, Ohio. The students did very well. Congratulations to everyone,
especially 8th grade pianist Mac Willaert, who was named outstanding student
accompanist, and 8th grade violinist Meera Oak, who was named outstanding
student instrumental soloist.
The community is invited to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony and Open
House for the newest District 303 Building and Trades house from 1-4 p.m.
Saturday, May 28, 2005. The “Charleston XXI” – the 21st house built by D.
303 students -- is at 3N464 Vachel Lindsay Street, St. Charles. The ribbon
cutting will take place at 1 p.m., and the open house will follow
immediately after.
The Charleston XXI covers about 2,900 square feet and has four bedrooms. The
house is a joint construction project for about 60 students in Building
Trades, Architectural Design and Interior Design courses St. Charles East
and North high schools. The 60 also includes a few students from Geneva High
School. The house will be for sale in the near future.
To get to the house, take Route 64 west to LaFox Road. Turn right, or south,
and follow to Vachel Lindsay Street.
