investigates serious crash
WEST CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, DECEMBER 23, 2005 – The West Chicago Police Department is investigating a serious personal injury crash that occurred on Wednesday, December 21 at 9:10 p.m. in the 1700 block of Powis Road. The preliminary investigation shows a 2000 Ford Explorer, driven by 25 year old Adan Lozano of St. Charles, was driving southbound Powis Road. The Explorer crossed the centerline and struck a 2006 Toyota Highlander, driven by 50 year old Barbara Soszko of West Chicago. The Highlander rolled over and the Explorer came to rest on its right side.
Personnel from the West Chicago Fire Protection District and other assisting fire departments extricated and treated the occupants of the two vehicles. Three additional occupants of the Ford Explorer, 25 year old Rey Soledad, 33 year old Arturo Jimenez, and 27 year old Eduardo Cruz, all of St. Charles, were transported to Central DuPage Hospital and Delnor Hospital with serious injuries. Barbara Soszko was transported to Delnor Hospital and 64 year old Zygmunt Soszko of West Chicago, was transported to Central DuPage Hospital with serious injuries. Lozano was air lifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove with serious injuries.
The crash is still under investigation and no charges have been filed as of this time. However, alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor to this crash. The most seriously injured persons were not using their seat belts.
The lead investigator for this crash is Officer Eugene Samuel, Traffic Unit, and may be contacted at 630-293-2222. Sergeant Chris Woodill may also be contacted.
The West Chicago Police Department reminds everyone that drinking and driving can shatter the lives of many people and this is especially poignant around the holidays. The use of seatbelts can reduce the seriousness of injuries in the event of a traffic crash.
