To the Residents of Bartlett,

In a recent article about the House of Representative race in the 55th district, some of my comments were taken out of context. I want to set the record straight.

First, I want the residents of Bartlett, Carol Stream and Wayne to know that I have been and will continue to work closely with residents, teachers, community leaders and local officials on the issue of disconnection. We need to ensure disconnection is both beneficial to our children and yet safeguards the financial interests of the residents of school district U-46 in Bartlett, Carol Stream and Wayne.

Second, the article that appeared in the February 10th edition of the Daily Herald gave the impression that since I do not live in U-46, I do not have a personal stake in the issue. My responsibility is to represent the constituents of the 55th Representative District in this matter. I need to know what the residents of school district U-46 in Bartlett, Carol Stream and Wayne want to do since this decision will have a profound effect on them and on their children’s lives. Local control of schools is very important to me.
